The 22nd Annu­al Her­bert Rubin and Jus­tice Rose Lut­tan Rubin Inter­na­tion­al Law Sym­po­sium at NYU School of Law orga­nized by the NYU Jour­nal of Inter­na­tion­al Law and Pol­i­tics was held on Novem­ber 17th, 2016 and was enti­tled Pars­ing the Trans-Pacif­ic Part­ner­ship: The Impli­ca­tions of the Trade Deal for Human Rights, Labor, and the Econ­o­my. The sym­po­sium brought togeth­er aca­d­e­mics and prac­ti­tion­ers in the areas of human rights, trade, and labor to exam­ine the Trans-Pacif­ic Part­ner­ship, its aspi­ra­tions, and its future fol­low­ing the elec­tion of Don­ald Trump.

The day was con­clud­ed with a keynote address by Ambas­sador (r.) David Hueb­n­er. Ambas­sador (r.) Hueb­n­er held senior posi­tions in the Asia Pacif­ic region, includ­ing as the US Ambas­sador to New Zealand and Samoa, chair­man and CEO of a large inter­na­tion­al law firm, found­ing chief rep­re­sen­ta­tive of an AmLaw 100 law firm in Shang­hai, and spe­cial pol­i­cy assis­tant to a mem­ber of the low­er house of Japan’s Diet. He is cur­rent­ly a Part­ner at Arnold & Porter LLP where he serves as arbi­tra­tor and rep­re­sents cor­po­ra­tions, gov­ern­ments, and NGOs in inter­na­tion­al dis­putes. Ambas­sador (r.) Hueb­n­er has more than two decades of expe­ri­ence han­dling com­mer­cial, invest­ment, and intel­lec­tu­al prop­er­ty arbi­tra­tions in the tech­nol­o­gy, telecom­mu­ni­ca­tions, life sci­ences, ener­gy, con­struc­tion, and infra­struc­ture sec­tors. In 2016, Pres­i­dent Barack Oba­ma appoint­ed Ambas­sador (r.) Hueb­n­er to a six-year term as mem­ber of the Pan­el of Arbi­tra­tors of the Inter­na­tion­al Cen­tre for the Set­tle­ment of Invest­ment Dis­putes (ICSID).

Atten­dees received up to 6.5 hours of CLE cred­it for par­tic­i­pa­tion. The event was appro­pri­ate for both new­ly admit­ted and expe­ri­enced attor­neys.
